Missionary In Residence

Every year, JBU has the opportunity to host a different missionary couple. These men and women take a year from their usual mission field and come serve right here on campus! Their primary purpose is to advocate missions at JBU. They assist with missions opportunities, such as the Missions Fair and World Awareness Week and also play a critical role helping Missionary Kids adapt to life in the US.

The 2008 -2009 Missionaries in Residence (MIR) are Peter and Cheryl Banks. They have been serving as missionaries with Liebenzell Mission of Canada since 2001.  They have worked in the Pacific nation of Palau, where Peter served as chaplain and teacher at a boarding school for students from Micronesia, as well as on the island of Manus, Papua New Guinea, teaching at a national high school and Bible training school.  Most recently they have been serving as children’s home parents at Ukarumpa International School, Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea.  Cheryl is an MK and was born in Burundi and also spent time in Haiti as a child.  Peter is a “PK”, and grew up around the USA and Canada.  Peter and Cheryl have four children: Tyson, Katelyn, Micah, and Hannah. Tyson is a junior and Katelyn a freshman at JBU.

The Banks are delighted to be at JBU this year and look forward to chatting with you about missions. They welcome all MKs and those interested in missions to drop by the MIR house or their office in Student Development for a visit.
